Lower back pain or upper back pain can vary from mild to quite severe. Back pain can occur for a number of reasons related to sports injuries, poor posture, degenerative and disc conditions.
Chiropractic adjustments are used to treat back pain and is one of the most cost-effective treatment options for back pain.
Neck and Shoulder Pain
Neck pain and shoulder pain is common in most people and can sometimes result in headaches and migraines. Office or desk jobs are more often than not a big factor which causes strained muscles and other degenerative changes.
Headaches & Migranes
Chiropractors typically treat headaches that have a musculoskeletal component. These are called cervicogenic headaches and present as pain referred from the neck or occiput. Cervicogenic headaches respond really well to chiropractic treatment which can include adjustments to the neck and releasing tight muscular surrounding the area.
TMJ (JAW) Problems
Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome causes pain and tenderness in the jaw or in the surrounding muscles. Headaches can also occur as a result of TMJ problems. The TMJ is closely related to the upper cervical spine and problems in one can affect the other. Chiropractors will often assess and treat both of these areas.
How can I help?
Scoliosis & Posture
Scoliosis or kyphosis are abnormal bendings or twisting deformations of the spine. In mild cases, spinal deformities can be due to posture and muscle imbalances and can usually be corrected with strengthening exercises and stretching. Conservative treatment can include bracing, spinal mobilization, soft tissue therapy as well as specialised therapeutic exercises.
Ergonomics refers to optimizing a persons work environment to be more effective and comfortable. This can include sitting correctly at a desk, positioning one’s computer at the optimum height and distance. Bad ergonomics can result in chronic back and neck pain which can affect a persons ability to work efficiently during the day.
Chiropractors can assist in showing patients how to sit correctly at a desk as well as provide treatments for the back and neck pain a patient may be experiencing.
